Whether you're an individual or a small business the need for high
speed internet is higher than ever. In the past these services have
been either very difficult to secure or very expensive in regional
and rural australia, but not any more. You can now find a Lisp satellite
plan to suit your requirements.

How much faster is Lisp Satellite than dial up?
Much faster, standard Dial up has a maximum speed of 56kbps using
a telephone line, 128kbps with ISDN. Satellite can reach speeds up
to 20 times faster then standard dialup.
Is it a broadband connection?
Yes, Satellite connections in Australia are considered broadband
if the connection downloads at speeds 256kbps or over.
How does it work?
A modem is plugged into a Network interface card inside your PC or
MAC or is plugged into a NAT network router for Internet sharing
between computers in your LAN (local area network). The modem is
then plugged into the satellite dish mounted on your roof. Your
Internet requests are transmitted to the earth station via the
satellite dish, which bounces off an orbiting satellite. The requested
traffic is then returned to you via the same data path.
Is the satellite always on or do I need to dial it up?
Satellite services are an always on connection irrespective if the
computer is switched on or off. Our Satellite connection is a Two-way
service and therefore does not use a telephone line or dialup connection.
Is it distance limited like other Broadband products?
No, the service is available everywhere in Australia.
I have heard satellite has a lag (latency), is this true?
For standard usage like browsing and downloading there is only a
slight lag compared to other broadband products thanks to some
technical prioritisation performed through the modem. For applications
that require high speed ping times like VPN, there is a lag typically
of around 600 milliseconds due to the distance needed to travel,
some 150,000 kilometres.
How big is the satellite dish?
The standard service has a 1.2m or an 84cm satellite dish and is
roof mounted.
Can I use my Austar / Foxtel / Sky TV satellite dish to receive
both Pay TV and internet at the same time?
No, our satellite service uses a completely different technology
to Pay TV.
Will it work in the rain?
Yes, only very bad solar or cyclonic weather will affect the transmission.
Can I install it myself?
No. Our Satellite service requires an experienced technician with
specialised equipment to install the system.
What is the minimum PC requirement?
Pentium 3, 128 Megabytes of Memory, 20 Gigabyte hard disk, Microsoft
Windows 98SE.
Is there a connection I can get for a notebook?
Yes, our hardware will plug directly into a network interface card
on a notebook
Does VoIP work over 2-way satellite?
At this time we are currently trialling this and hope to have this
available shortly.
