BATHURST ...
From gold rush and colonial history, farm holidays and bushwalking, shopping and festivals, to the world famous Mount Panorama, Bathurst is a delight for visitors all year round. Arts, crafts and antiques also attract many people to the area. Excellent shops, galleries and theatre productions entertain visitors and locals.

Situated in central west New South Wales, Bathurst can be a peaceful escape or an action packed holiday destination. There are many major events such as AMP Bathurst 1000, Primus 1000 Classic and the Gold Crown trotting carnival which bring days of celebrating in the streets with festivals, street parades, theatre and music. National Motor Racing Museum captures the excitement of Mount Panorama on a year round basis.

Bushwalking in the nearby national parks or surrounding caves provide wonderful opportunities to 'get back to nature'. Experience the awe-inspiring beauty of Jenolan or Abercrombie Caves' glittering caverns. Close to Bathurst the Sir Joseph Banks Nature Reserve is a haven for native Australian flora and fauna.

Historic gold rush towns, such as Sofala, Hill End and Rockley, are close to Bathurst and, for a walk back in time to see how they really operated, make a visit to Bathurst Gold Diggings on Mount Panorama.

History abounds in lovely buildings from the dramatic courthouse to restored workmen's cottages. Visits to Abercrombie House and Miss Traill's cottage are worthwhile for keen history buffs and the home of Ben Chifley, one of Australia's most loved Prime Minister's, is open for inspection.

Rural Australia surrounds Bathurst. The Sheep and Cattle Drome provides an all weather theatre displaying everything from sheep and cattle breeds to milking, shearing and working sheep dogs.

Bathurst has four clearly marked seasons, each bringing new colour and atmosphere. Spring and Autumn displays of colour, cool crisp winter days with the occasional dustings of snow, and a hot summer, true to Australia, enhance visits to Bathurst.

Bathurst lies 200 kms west of Sydney in Central Western New South Wades on the Macquarie River. It is Australia's oldest inland settlement, proclaimed in 1815 and has a population of 31,370.
