Internet Mail is called Email.
Email stands for Electronic Mail. Electronic Mail can be
delivered around the world in seconds. Let's say Bob writes an email
to his Aunty Wilma. Bob presses send, when he finishes typing his
letter and Aunty Wilma gets the letter in 30 seconds. There are two
protocols: POP3 and SMTP. POP3 is used to check email and SMTP is
used to send email. To send and recieve email, you need an Email
Client. You probably have Eudora Light 1.5.4 installed if you are a
Windows user. You can use any email client that is compatible with
Internet Mail. We recommend that you download Eudora Light 3.0.5
Eudora Light is a free email program that has a friendly graphical
user interfaec (GUI) and it runs on Windows 3.11, Windows 95 and
Macintosh. You can get more information
about eudora or download
eudora. Once you've downloaded Eudora and Installed it you will
need to run it to configure it.
When you first run Eudora, Eudora
will prompt you to enter some basic information. You will need to
enter your POP account, which is username@mail.lisp.com.au.The
next question is your Real Name. You must enter your Real Name, if
it was Billy Dee Six, you would enter Billy Dee Six.
Your return address is username@lisp.com.au.When
you've entered this information you can press OK.

Eudora can be customised in many
ways! If you'd like to experiment and configure settings, all you
have to do is goto the Tools menu and select Options. Scroll through
the categories and if you dont' know what something means, all you
have to do is press F1 and a little yellow box tells you what it means.
Once you've entered that basic
information, you can send and receive email. Press Control-N, select
New from the File Menu or click the 5th large button with a notebook
and pencil on it. This will bring up a new message, untitled. You
must enter the address to who the email is addressed to; it can be
addressed to multiple people just by using commas ",".
The To: field indicates who the email is being addressed to, it is
visible to the other user. The From field can't be changed unless you
change it in Tools -- Options -- RealName. Subject: you can enter
anything you like in here, just remember to keep it brief. CC: means
carbon copy. Carbon Copy would mean that you want another user to see
the message, but it's not addressed to them. BCC means Blind Carbon
Copy. This field allows you to send a copy of the message to, but the
CC and TO recipients can't see if it is being sent or not. An example
of this is sending an email to a user about a query and creating a
bcc entry to inquire@lisp.com.au.You
can send a message to webmaster@lisp.com.au
stating that you are testing email, and someone will get back to you!

If you press CTRL-M or select the
File Menu and click on "Check Mail", you
will be able to see if you get any email. A password entry box will
popup and you will be required to enter your password.

If your password is accepted by
LiSP, any new messages may arrive and they will appear in your inbox.
They will look like

That's the basics of sending and
receiving email. If you have any problems with Eudora, please
feel free to Ask Doctor LiSP or if your
message gets bounced or the server generates an error message, please
email postmaster@lisp.com.au. |
