Uploading and Creating a homepage (FTP & HTML)

If you would like to create a homepage, we suggest that you download the homepage template. The homepage template will need to be edited with a text editor, such as notepad for windows or simpletext for the macintosh.

Homepages can get very complex and you may want to download homepage editors to help you design your homepage. Some of these homepage programs are:

Once you've designed your HTML and maybe some graphics, you can upload your files to LiSP. If you would like to add your page to a search engine, what you have to do is visit the search engines, and they will have a link to "Add your URL".

Uploading your Homepage
Have you just finished your first homepage, and you don't know how to upload it? We'll show you how. First of all, you need an FTP Client. To save you searching, LiSP Recommended Downloads may have a FTP Program listed already. TUCOWS has FTP Client Software for:

Once, you've got your FTP Client, Install it, and follow the simple instructions, if you need help with installing your FTP Client, just Ask Doctor LiSP.

This is what a Profile screen looks like, they usually look verysimilar, you need to enter 203.21.133.1 or ftp.lisp.com.au in the Host Name/Address, the Host Type is UNIX, the User ID is what you use to login to LiSP and your password is what you also use to check email and login to LiSP.You can add a Comment if you wish. Save Pwd saves you from having to type the password in, if you use FTP alot, but it's not recommended, because if someone else is using your computer, they can gain access to your home directory.

Once you are connected, you will have a directory called public_html on the remote side (right hand side). You need todouble click on that to open it. On the left side, change to the directory that you saved your homepage/images. Select all of them, and click on the arrow --> to send them to LiSP. Your main file, which you want to come up, when someone has a look at your homepage, should be called "index.html". (of course, without the quotation marks). Once you've uploaded and renamed the appropriate files, you can test to see if you've done it right, by pointing your Web Browser to http://www.lisp.com.au/~username
