Optimising WWW Performance (Proxy)
You must use a proxy server to access the Internet through Lithgow. By using a proxy server, you are also optimising your WWW performance by accessing a cache. A cache is a disk that contains saved pages and media from the Internet.
Situation- Fred needs to visit the Disney homepage to get some pictures of Tigger, and prints them off. Fred tells Mary where to find the pictures of Tigger, and Mary types in the same URL (Universal Resource Locator). Mary will now be downloading the page from LiSP rather than the USA, saving time.
To ensure the latest version of the page is fetched, the cache will automatically check periodically.
Netscape 3 Users
Click on the "Options" menu and select "Network Preferences".
Select the "Proxies" tab and click on "Manual Proxy Configuration". Then select "View".
Type in proxy.lisp.com.au for all fields except "Socks". Enter 3128 for the Port. Ensure the "Exceptions" section is blank.
Your proxy configuration is now configured properly.
