To start the configuration of Dial-Up Networking for use with LiSP Double click on the icon labeled ‘My Computer’ on your desktop. |

In the ‘My Computer’ window, you will need to double click on the icon labeled ‘Dial-Up Networking’ |

Double click on the icon labeled ‘Make New Connection’ |
|
|
In the field labeled ‘Type a name for the computer you are dialing:’ enter ‘LiSP’, select your modem from the option box marked ‘Select a modem:’ and click ‘Next’ to continue. |

You will be prompted for a phone number in the next window Make sure the phone number is correct, if you are unsure go to LiSP dial up numbers for a complete listing. Ensure this is a local call charge. Select the Country Code as ‘Australia (61)', and then click on the button labeled ‘Next’ |

You have now created a new Dial-Up Networking connection, to continue click on the button labeled ‘Finished’ |

By clicking once with your right mouse button on the icon labeled ‘LiSP’ , a menu will appear, Select ‘Properties’ from this menu. |

Make sure the phone number is correct, if you are unsure go to LiSP dial up numbers for a complete listing. You will be presented with a screen that with several tabs, start off by clicking on the tab that is marked ‘General’. In this window you will need to uncheck the box marked ‘Use country code and Dialing properties’. After this you may click on the tab marked ‘Server Types’ to continue. |

You will now be presented with the ‘Server Types’ window, in this window in the ‘Type of Dial-Up Server’ section, you will be required to select ‘PPP: Windows 95, Windows NT3.5, Internet’. Under the Advanced options section, you will be required to uncheck the following: Log on to network, Enable software compression and Require encrypted password leaving this section with nothing checked. Under the Allowed network protocols section, you will be required to uncheck the following: NetBEUI and IPX/SPX Compatible leaving TCP/IP the only box checked. After completing this you will need to click on the button labeled ‘TCP/IP Settings’ to continue. |

You will now be presented with the ‘TCP/IP Settings’ window, in this window in the you are required to leave ‘Server assigned IP address’ checked and you will need to make sure that ‘Server assigned name server addresses’ has been selected. Both ‘Use IP header compression’ and ‘Use default gateway on remote network’ are required to be checked. Click on the button labeled ‘Ok’ to return to the ‘Server Types’ window. |

By Clicking on the ‘Scripting’ tab, you will be presented with a section marked ‘Script file’, you are required to leave this blank. Also ensure that ‘Start terminal screen minimized’ is not checked. Click on the tab marked ‘General’ to continue. |

Select
the modem you intend to use to connect to the Internet with using the
option box in the ‘Connect Using’ section
and then click on the button marked ‘Configure’
to continue |

You will now be presented with the ‘Modem Properties’ window, in this window you will have a section marked ‘Maximum speed’ If you have a 28.8 or 33.6 modem, select ‘38400’ from the option box, alternatively if you have a 56.6 modem, select ‘57600’ from the option box. To continue click on the tab marked ‘Connection’. |

You will now be presented with the ‘Connection’ tab, you can leave the settings as default on this screen. Click on the button labeled ‘Advanced’ to continue. |

In the ‘Advanced Connection Settings’ window, ensure ‘Use error control’ and ‘Compress data’ are both checked leaving ‘Required to connect’ unchecked. Click on the button labeled ‘Ok’ then click on the tab marked ‘Options’ |

Under
the ‘Options’ tab, ensure that ‘Bring
up terminal window before dialing’ and ‘Bring
up terminal window after dialing’ are both unchecked.
You may choose to check ‘Display modem status’
as this will allow you to view the status of your modem when you are
connected to the Internet.
By Clicking on ‘Ok’ repeatedly to take you back to the ‘Dial-Up Networking’ window, once you have don’t this configuration of Dial-Up Networking for LiSP is complete. |
