Grenfell - re-live the nostalgia

Grenfell Re-live the Nostalgia
Grenfell the birthplace of Henry Lawson, haunt of notorious bushranger, Ben Hall, and home to some of the finest examples of heritage architecture in rural Australia, is a must see destination for those wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of city living. Originally known as Emu Creek, Grenfell nestled in a picturesque valley at the foot of the Weddin Mountains, is a town steeped in history and the pioneering spirit of our colonial forefathers. Grenfell offers visitors the chance to soak up the atmosphere of days gone by and to relive the nostalgia of a time when life moved at a more leisurely pace.

Weddin Mountains National Park
Is located 18km south-west from Grenfell. A virtually untouched area the Weddin’s are a haven for many indigenous species of fauna and flora. The rich wildlife and history, make the park a great place to go bushwalking, bird watching, camping or just to have a picnic. A walk to one of the lookouts is worth the effort for a truly spectacular view. Visit Ben Hall’s Cave and Seaton’s Farm, to appreciate the history of the area.

Location: Grenfell is located a leisurely half day drive from Sydney or a couple of hours from Canberra, Wagga, Orange, Bathurst or Dubbo. Map & Distances

All that Glitters
Gold was discovered in Grenfell in 1866 and this caused dazzling wealth and growth. Today many of the original buildings in Main and George Street are testament to the heady days of yesteryear.

Grenfell originally known as Emu Creek was formally named in 1867 after the Gold Commissioner, John Granville Grenfell, who was tragically gunned down by bushrangers attracted to the district’s new found wealth.

The Henry Lawson Festival of Arts
To commerate Lawson’s birth and his significant contribution to the arts, Grenfell is host to the annual Henry Lawson Festival over the June long weekend. Highlights include street parade and market, guinea pig races, wine tasting, art and photography exhibitions and much more.

Festival of Colour
