Discovery Drive – Lachlan Valley Way
Forbes-Condobolin-Euabalong- Lake Cargelligo- Hillston

The Lachlan Valley way follows the Lachlan river as it meanders across the Heart of NSW from Forbes Hillston through Condobolin, Euabalong and Lake Cargelligo. It can take you from the Newell to the Kidman or vice versa. There are more than 20 travelling stock reserves along the way where camping is allowed with a permit. See RLPB board 30 Bathurst Street, Condobolin ph 68952152. Pick up a fishing map from a visitor information centre which shows these locations. Between Condobolin and Euabalong Pass the Oxley Memorial and Kings Grave. This memorial marks the spot where a respected leader of the local Wiradjuri people was buried after drowning while crossing the river. When Oxley arrived there were two intricately carved trees, a burial mound and seats carved into the gravesite for mourners. The trees were subsequently removed and remain in the Museum of Australia in Sydney. Police replicating the original carvings have been erected on the site.

Keep an eye out also for Cobb and Co plaques laid at the site of former Cobb and Co changeover stations along this route between Forbes and Hillston.

Discovery Drive – The Harvest Loop
West Wyalong-Tullibigeal-Lake Cargelligo-Rankins Springs

Less traffic than the highway, even at harvest time in this predominantly wheat growing area.

Watch Casuarina scrub gradually give way to the sweeping plains of the outback
Do this loop or continue on to meet the Kidman at Hillston or Mt Hope.
Another alternative is to turn off the Newell at Parkes and travel the Condobolin and Lake Cargelligo rejoining at either West Wyalong or Rankins Springs.

Discovery Drive – Wide Sky travel
West Wyalong-Burcher-Condobolin-Fifield-Narromine-Dubbo

On this route you see the sunlit plains extended and at night the wondrous glory of the everlasting starts.

Drop in to Burcher to explorer Manna Mt and its ancient scars from Aboriginal people regularly passing through and sharpening their axes. Burcher also boasts a quiet bush chapel, old Bakery Museum and a well-kept park in the town’s tree-lined main street.
