The Heart of NSW lies in Wiradjuri Country, but a number of different language groups were moved to the area during the late 40s. Evidence of this indigenous culture remains in the form of carved and scarred trees along the river bank and in the forests. There are also a large number of very good indigenous artists around Lake Cargelligo and Condobolin. Non indigenous artists and artisans are also plentiful, so keep your eye out for paintings, photography, quilts, craft, woodwork or metalwork. Stores in each town sell locally made items. Condobolin, Lake Cargelligo and Tottenham hold annual Art and Craft competitions and exhibitions (see events). Most of the towns have a community centre or museum also portraying local art and culture. Heart of NSW Visitor Information Centre Web Sites: |
