Typical Tablelands topography, which is generally undulating with some hilly sections, running down to valleys and river flats. The course has been modified slightly from the Zone 2 Championships held in June 1999. The fourth leg is shorter, with the first steep rough hill being removed from the course.

The State 2000 track will be five legs, clover-leaf, with all legs returning to base. There are some short sections of bitumen at Windeyer and through Hargraves; unfortunately it is not possible to go around Hargraves.

First leg:
47 km
The ride starts with a 30km of good dirt roads, with plenty of room to manoeuvre. This is followed by 10km of rough tracks, through paddocks and is slower going. The last 7km is on 4wd tracks and dirt lanes.
Second leg:
23 km
Dirt road to start, then across paddocks and on 4wd tracks, undulating, no steep hills.
Third leg:
35 km
Some bitumen, then flat dirt to a long climb for 5 kms, then mostly undulating. 11km of road through Hargraves, then turn off main road down a steep hill and along river road.
Fourth leg
31 km
Bitumen with wide shoulder to start, through paddocks, across road and through more paddocks and up a fairly steep hill. Back home along river road.
Fifth leg:
24 km
All dirt road to turn-around at check point.
