E L Lakin Pty Ltd Grocery Shop in Lithgow 1940, Bernie Dunn on the left. Written on the back of the photos is “I was the manager then aged 20 years - (I am the bloke on the left). Then I did 4 years war service. I was on the "Centaur" Hospital Ship on her last voyage after being wounded in New Guinea and the japs sunk her on her return north. She was lit up like Coney Island and plainly was a Hospital Ship. They are a miserable lot. I often think of all those doctors and nurses on board who perished. So sad.” |
